What is lone working?

Lone workers carry out their duties without close or direct supervision. They can include delivery drivers, healthcare workers, engineers, security officers, cleaners, warehouse staff, petrol-station employees and people working from home.

What is an employer’s duty?

Employers must assess and manage health and safety risks before people work alone. This responsibility also applies to contractors and self-employed people working on the organisation’s behalf. Further official guidance is available from the Health and Safety Executive.
